What is skeuomorph beauty?

A skeuomorph is a derivative object that retains ornamental design cues from structures that are inherent to the original. In the case of beauty, a skeuomorph is a certain "look", or "aesthetic" that is inspired by something else. 

For example, you might think of a certain look when you think of "Instagram" beauty, and you'd be right, that's so popular as to have coined its own name: "Instaglam". A skeuomorph is a look that's been inspired by something else. If you saw an instaglam look and thought "I hate how full-on that is. If I did a look like that, I'd keep the eyes, but do everything else more neutral," then you've created a skeuomorph. 

All of my looks tend to be this, and I prefer looks that inspire a certain aesthetic. For me, there's not much fun in just a sweep of mascara. Maybe that makes me look better, but there's no design value inherent in that, for me. I would rather lashings of mascara (sorry for the pun) and drawn-on freckles inspired by Bambi. Does that make me OTT? Probably. Does that make me a dumbass who lives for dramatic aesthetics? No, that's inherent, but it doesn't help. But does the art of creating something inspired by another piece of art make me happy? Yes. 

So, that's what important. That's what I want. That's what beauty is to me.
